People, families and communities are in deep pain as the death toll from substance abuse continues to climb. For the first time in centuries, life expectancy decreased in the United States. The roots of these issues are found where hope for a better future is dying, where isolation and loneliness are common, and where people segregate themselves from the rich cultures and traditions of those they label as “other”.

Determining the cause of chronic diseases – such as Lyme disease, Bartonellosis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, neuropsychiatric diseases and Crohn’s disease -- is now within reach.

It’s startling to consider that if only five percent of chronic diseases are attributable to infectious agents, in The United States alone, approximately 4.5 million of the 90 million people living with chronic disease might receive benefit from new plans and programs.

So, when the Mayo Clinic awarded TLI a subcontract to assist in the development of a Limb Loss and Preservation Registry for the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), the entire TLI organization was extremely gratified to participate in a project that could lead to prevention of limb loss, improve amputation surgeries, refine rehabilitation approaches and guide the development of devices for people with limb loss.
